I have been a member of the Square Dance Callers' Club of Great Britain since 1959 and for ten years was its national President. My membership of the European Callers and Teachers Association (ECTA) has taken me to many dance festivals, sometimes with more than 1500 dancers attending from all over Europe.
I have frequently called for large groups of dancers for whom English was not their first language and have succeeded not only in keeping them dancing but responding to calls without knowing what was coming next. In some squares at these functions no 2 couples have the same mother tongue!
I have run regular weekly classes for nearly 50 years to teach dancers in this country and have run residential courses to teach others how to call square dances in UK, Germany and the Czech Republic.
In addition to my home programme of 3 or 4 dances/classes every week, I now call regularly at Leeds Contra Dance Club and York Ceilidk Club.
